ATRA works entirely on donations. While we can always use general donations of time and money, we also have a program where you can pick a specific dog and help with their needs. This is most needed with our senior dogs. Many come to ATRA and will never leave. Often their senior owners pass away and no one in the family can take them. We hope to find them new homes, but for many that doesn't happen. So they live out their lives here at ATRA. It's a good life with lots of love in a home setting, but their expenses can add up for ATRA. Senior dogs can have more medical issues and many need medication for life. Prescriptions can add up if there are many senior dogs with us. If you go to our Terriers Available page you will find that the majority of our population, sadly, is senior dogs. Even if you cannot adopt one, you can choose one to be "yours." You then, working with ATRA decide on how much you can afford on a monthly basis and donate that each month to that specific dog. You can, for example, buy him toys or a winter sweater and ATRA will see that he gets it. ATRA can always use new volunteers. Our volunteers are vital to keeping the Rescue available for Terriers in need. There are many ways that you can help.

• Can you check specific animal shelters for our breeds?
  
  
• Can you check websites of the animal shelters for our breeds?
  
  
• Can you help with transport? Many times, the shelter is a distance from ATRA and we need someone to pick up the dog and transport it to us or to a vet.
  
  
• Are you a professional groomer? Can you help us with grooming our dogs from time to time as a donation? Looking good can make all the difference in getting a good home! And a dog that is adopted looking well groomed is much more likely to be kept clean and groomed.
  
  
• Are you a professional trainer than knows and LIKES terriers? We can always use help with the dogs that come in. Most are great little dogs that only ended up in the wrong home. But they can have typical Terrier issues that they need to have worked on. You do need to have Terrier experience and a love for their type of temperament.
  
  
• Can you donate anything that we might need to help the rescue dogs while they are here? That can be from dog food to paper towels. Please call Ruth at (805) 386-3757 first to see what current needs are. (Note: We do not feed supermarket type dog food as it is so poor quality.) These guys need the best we can get them. After what they have been through, they deserve the best!
  
  
• We can always use a cash donation. There is never enough money for all the expenses. You can sponsor a specific dog or just give to help cover them all. Our senior dogs are the ones that need the help the most. They usually end up living out their lives with ATRA and have more veterinary expenses. Sponsoring one of them and donating toward their expenses helps relieve a significant financial concern. We would love to see each of them in their own homes, but if they are staying with ATRA, helping with their expenses is the next best thing.
