Name: Abbey
Age: 5-6

Abbey came to us in October as a stray from the Orange County Animal Shelter. Abbey was unspayed and it appeared that she had been bred at least once. Her owners never came to claim her so she became ours. Abbey is currently in a foster home in Long Beach. Abbey is a sweet girl who is is valiantly overcoming her anxieties from being abandoned. She already knows how to sit on command! She is very agile and can dance and pirouette like a circus dog for her treats. Her agility, however,  must be channeled for she is an escape artist whose escapades have delighted and amazed the neighbors and given her foster mom anxieties of her own! (See in the photos below how Abbey climbed atop the recycle bin one day!) She will need a Wire-safe home with vigilant guardians who can spend lots of time with her.  Abbey is dominant and will probably do best as the only dog but she may be able to get along with a dog who submits to her authority. Abbey walks on leash well using the Gentle Leader Easy Walk halter and loves to explore  but she will also curl up by your side or at the foot of the bed. Abbey is healthy,  current on shots and teeth cleaning. She was well-behaved at the groomer and the vet!

Name: Annie
Age: 10

Annie has been a resident at the Rescue for almost four years. She had been purchased at a pet store and then given up to us by her owner because she was "not the right dog." Annie is dominant and intense but has mellowed over the years. She shares space with Morgan the Airedale and Josie, our shy Airedale mix. Annie is still very active and loves to patrol the hill behind the Rescue. When avocados are in season she will bring Morgan a daily avocado gift. Annie would probably do best as the only dog in your life and she has patiently waited for that spot! Annie is pictured in her favorite armchair reflecting on the day's events!

Name: April
Age: 5

April is Ariel's slightly portlier sister. She was also rescued from the puppy mill situation. Because of that, she was initially fearful when she came to our Rescue. Now, however, she is playful and sweet. She is not an alpha girl but gets along with the other terriers! She's not quite sure what a doggy door is for...that's one obstacle she'll need some help with! Given her resilient and compliant attitude, we're sure she'll do her best to learn quickly and please a loving family.

Name: Ariel
Age: 5

Ariel is a petite sprite with a husky Lauren Bacall-like (de)bark! Like the character, Linus, from Peanuts, she drags a blanket with her wherever she goes! Ariel was recently rescued from a puppy mill situation in the Yucca Valley area so she is not yet completely housebroken. She is improving her manners and socialization, however, and is learning to love life outside of a cage.! Ariel was rescued along with April, her sister and Timmy to whom she was bred (but  with whom she is not infatuated!)

Name: Cecil
Age: 9

Cecil is a quiet and reticent boy but he won't allow himself to be bullied by the other dogs. Although he is older and undemanding, he was left at the Downey shelter (SEACCA) in deplorable condition. Cecil has an endearing jack-o'-lantern underbite that is sure to make you smile. Cecil deserves to have a home where he is loved and cared for properly to make up for the time he spent being neglected. His forgiving nature should be rewarded with a  loving home to call his own.

Name: Devon
Age: 2.5

Devon is a survivor!  He overcame  the life threatening illness of distemper--something that could have been prevented with  a routine innoculation. His owner surrendered him to the shelter  in Kern County when he was only a puppy. He's got lots of energy and is so endearing--check out his head tilt! He's inquisitive and active and will need lots of attention.  He recently gave agility a try (see picture below). He's HOUSEBROKEN and would do best as your only dog. He's a good boy and has lots of potential but is overstimulated in the Rescue environment.

Please spring Devon from his crate!

Name: Dolly
Age: Girls don't tell

Dolly came to us from the Orange County Shelter where she was listed as a stray. The shelter estimated her age as 10 but due to her energy level and the condition of her coat (beautiful markings!) we are confident she is younger. Dolly is a sweetheart who loves attention. She walks well on leash and enjoys her outings but is also content to be in your lap.

Dolly is getting along well with the other rescue dogs and hasn't been a bit of trouble. She will need some dental work soon to enhance her beautiful smile.

HELLO DOLLY!

Hope you will soon be "back where you belong" in a loving home!

Name: Harry
Age: 7

Harry is a happy boy even though he had to give up the only home he had ever known for financial reasons and take up residence in Rescue because of his owner's financial hardships. Stubbed tailed and stout  (although running around the Rescue grounds has helped him slim down a bit!) with one ear up and one down, Harry is mellow, with no attitude toward his fellow Wires. Harry is HOUSEBROKEN and would love to be back in a home to call his own. As you can see in the photos, Harry may be a laid back fellow but his sweater selection shows the potential for a wild and crazy guy! We're just wild about Harry and he'll be wild with gratitude if you take him home!

Name: Holly
Age: 11

Holly received her name because she came to us during the Christmas season from the Long Beach shelter. The shelter thought she was a senior because of her teeth but they were wrong and so were we! Poor Holly was passed over for younger dogs and now six years later she is still with the Rescue. She is a good, happy girl who is crate trained and still loves to play. She gets along with all of the dogs at the Rescue except for Ginger and even that is mellowing a bit, How nice it would be if Holly could live out her remaining time in a home of hr own..

Name: Hoppi and Snoot
Age: 11

This  darling pair, Hoppi and Snoot, were sadly given up by their loving, elderly caretaker when she had to leave her home and enter a nursing facility. A neighbor had promised to take care of the two dogs and he kept them with him in his truck when he drove to work each day. When the foreman on the job discovered the dogs he gave the good samaritan a choice--the dogs or the job....the kindly man was living in his truck with the dogs and felt he had no choice, He contacted Rescue and tearfully relinquished Hoppi and Snoot to us after driving from Arizona. The neighbor and the elderly owner are grateful to Rescue and keep in touch. But they would both love to hear that Hoppi and Snoot have a home of their own.

These two sweeties are our best behaved Wires. They love car rides, are HOUSEBROKEN and even good with cats!

We would love to see this pair adopted together!

In the additional photos Hoppi is pictured by the flower pot and Snoot is standing showing off his curly tail.

Name: Jack
Age: 9

Jack unfortunately bounced back to us after being a beloved family member in a home in San Francisco. We took him back and Jack is doing his best to adjust to Rescue life and separation anxiety. A handsome and dignified fellow, Jack is HOUSEBROKEN and hoping for an understanding Wire home.

Jack is pictured during a break on his trip southbound from SF to the Rescue.

Name: Jimmy
Age: 2

Jimmy was tearfully relinquished to Rescue by his owners who had to move in with in-laws due to financial hardship. Unfortunately, Jimmy  did not appreciate the hospitality extended enough to keep from resorting to typical terrier behavior and terrorizing the Chihuahuas already in residence. Jimmy is handsome and full of himself with impish energy. He is also HOUSEBROKEN! And, while the Chihuahuas apparently didn't qualify, he actually is good with mellower dogs!

Name: Milou
Age: 7

Un bon homme, our Milou, for Milou is the name of a Wire in an old French cartoon! Our Gallic charmer loves to run and will entertain himself and others by playing  solo  with any ball. Perhaps it is his exotic name, but Milou feels a bit superior to the other dogs. Top dog, he is, and woe to any challenger to what he believe is his rightful title. Milou came to us  after just such a skirmish via a Pasadena shelter . So we think Milou would do best as the adored "only dog" and firmly believe that he has a future in agility (individual!) or just learning tricks from a patient and understanding Wire lover.

Name: Nicky
Age: 8

Nicky (came to us as Nikita) is a typical wire whose owner had to give him up due to divorce and financial reasons. Because Nikita does not have experience with other animals he would do best as an only dog. He is HOUSEBROKEN,loves to play ball,go for walks, and ride in the car.According to his owner he knows sit, stay and down command. He is an easy keeper with a good appetite and while very active he likes his naps. He would really enjoy a snuggle with you after a fine dining experience!

Our pictures of Nick were taken soon after his arrival at the rescue when he was a bit overwhelmed! We hope to have some more of him as he adjusts to his new (hopefully temporary) surroundings! In the meantime he is staying warm in his new red sweater!

Name: Princess
Age: 8

Princess was rescued from a shelter in Carlsbad where she sadly was taken after her elderly caretaker died. Remarkably resilient in adapting to the Rescue life  of sharing with other dogs after a privileged upbringing, our very own Princess  in residence is obedient and HOUSEBROKEN!  Her rotund figure was evidence that she had been indulged and rewarded. Now she has slimmed down a bit but has become proficient at counter surfing and scouring for edibles on her own! Princess will need a special diet as protein has been detected in her urine.

Name: Regis
Age: 10

Regis was rescued from the Corona shelter. He is a sweet , mellow senior who loves to sit in the sun and avoid the terrier drama that sometimes occurs among those who comprise the younger, more energetic (read high maintenance) set!

Regis is a bit on the portly side and has an intriguing physique--a little bow-legged like a rodeo cowboy with an elevated hindquarter like a stock car ready to go!

Regis is pictured on his favorite bed looking for his forever home.

Name: Rocky
Age: 11

Rock was the  beloved Wire of a couple who both became terminally ill at a young age and sadly had to relinquish him to Rescue. Rocky is a handsome boy and he was placed with a family but he was returned to us because of separation anxiety since both family members had to work. Rocky is a good boy who would do best as a companion to someone who is ome most of the time. Even at his age, he is still pretty active.

Name: Tibbs
Age: 5-6

Mr. Tibbs came to us via the Riverside County shelter.  He had landed there on other occasions because he "outfoxed" his owners and escaped. Sadly, in November, 2009 no one claimed him. He had a brief respite at another rescue but was a little too much with the other dogs there.

Tibbs is a people dog who loves to engage you in play. However, with other dogs he manifests a typical Wire "in your face "attitude with any perceived rival. Therefore, we recommend Tibbs be the only dog and he will reward you with his devotion.

Tibbs rides well in a car so he would make a great companion on the road. Just make sure he is securely by your side on leash since, as referenced above, the open road has called to Tibbs before!

Name: Robin
Age: 5

Sweet little Robin was also rescued from a puppy mill situation in Yucca Valley this past August.  She had been neglected there and needed treatment for ear infections.  She is mellow and quiet and Flash (who is just the opposite!) has taken quite a shine to her She is already learning  about the doggy door and adjusting to life outside of a puppy mill crate. Her ears will always need to be monitored but just a month of treatment alleviated her suffering and, as is typical of so many loving dogs, she holds no grudges  against humans even though she was not properly loved and cared for.

We do not currently have Lakeland Terriers available for adoption.

Name: Ginger
Age: 10

Ginger is actually a terrier mix who was mistaken as an Irish terrier at the East Valley (LA City) Shelter.  Fearing that she would be put down, we took her into Rescue. Ginger is HOUSEBROKEN and OBEDIENT and HEALTHY! She has been sadly overlooked because she is a mix. She is a keen hunter so she could earn her keep if you need a dog to protect your property from four-legged interlopers! She also would be a loyal and loving companion.

Ginger is pictured in her Christmas bow -- wrapped up and ready to go to a loving home.

Name: Josie
Age: 2

Josie was rescued from the LA County Shelter located in Baldwin Park which unfortunately has a high euthanasia rate. We could not leave her to an uncertain fate, so, even though she is a Airedale mix we took her in. Initially, Josie was so shy and fearful that she literally spent her time in the closet in one of the bedrooms at the Rescue. Now, however she has "come out of the closet!"

She feels much more secure, although she needs time and patience to adapt to  new people and situations. She weathered the recent evacuation of the rescue for fires and has made wonderful improvements. She is HOUSEBROKEN, very healthy and playful. She tries to rouse our elderly Airedale, Morgan, to play but settles for Wire Fox Annie with whom to romp.

Name: Morgan
Age: 13

Morgan came to our Rescue nearly five years ago from the Baldlwin Park Shelter. He is a big Teddy Bear who now naps the day away  ignoring Josie and Annie who try to engage him to play. Morgan is wide awake at chow time and, typical of Airedales, he loves to be loved. We list him as available although we understand that because of his age and the time he has already spent at Rescue, he will probably live out his life with us.

Name: Ruby
Age: 11

Sweet Ruby was left late at night at the Camarillo Shelter in September of 2008. She has a gentle disposition and would love to have a quiet, accepting home where she could spend her last years. We have had some offers to take her in but those offers have not materialized for various reasons.

When Ruby was abandoned at the Shelter she had mammary tumors (she was never spayed) but only one was positive for a slow growing cancer. Ruby is waiting for a special soul to love her.
