The first indiction that something was amiss just before Christmas, 2000, was that Susan Berman’s three beloved Wire Fox terriers, Lulu, Golda and Romeo were running in the street in a frenzy of barking. Susan would never have allowed that. Sadly, Susan was found murdered in her Benedict Canyon home.
After Susan’s death, Lulu was adopted by a neighbor who had a cat. Lulu was cat-tolerant unlike Golda and Romeo. Susan’s stepson, unable to keep Golda and Romeo, tearfully brought them to ATRA. They were adored, pampered and spoiled by Susan. Nevertheless, they entered the Rescue undaunted and with a sense of entitlement. Working in uncanny tandem, they soon rose to the top at the Rescue both figuratively and literally. Golda, the imperious queen, commandeered the dining room table as her throne. Romeo was her sweet and subservient partner who assisted her exploits. Seniors when they arrived, Golda and Romeo lived out their lives at the Rescue. Both of them, along with Lulu, were mute witnesses to the violence in 2000 that deprived them of their loving owner and home. They knew who killed their devoted owner. Now, 15 years later, we may also learn who it is……
