Bunny | Hopping to a Loving Home

In late November, just before Thanksgiving, ATRA Volunteer Brandee Barnaby’s son, Sean, alerted us to a little Wire who had been found along with her sister in the back of a pick up truck in southern Washington State. She and her sister were left there out in the rain without any shelter. Since the uncaring and neglectful owner intended to let them go to anyone for free, it was fortunate they were rescued. 

Sean knew how important it was that Wires go to a rescue familiar with the Wire Fox Terrier breed. The little Wire, named Bunny, was fostered for a while, but she was too lively with the resident dog and posed other typical Wire challenges, so it did not work out. The Wire with her, though, was adopted out.

Sean and his wife, Katie, had planned to drive to a camping site in Death Valley so they picked Bunny up from her foster home on their way south. We agreed to meet them and made the nearly 600 mile journey bring Bunny home with us the same day.

Our aptly named Bunny, a petite little girl with big straight up ears, charmed everyone who saw her. One of those people was a former adopter, Renee Mattox. One look at Bunny and she just knew that Bunny was the one to fill her heart. 

Just a few weeks after Bunny came to Abandoned Terrier Rescue, she joined the rollicking and loving family of Renee and her husband–plus three other dogs, a cat and barnyard animals. All reports are that Bunny is a most delightful and entertaining addition. The days start early with the dogs playing bitey face and Bunny claiming her seat at the breakfast table. When not playing, she keeps very busy gathering shoes to put in her dog bed! In the year with Renee, Bunny has overcome most of the fears from her former life, learned most of her manners and has brought lots of joy!
